September 1st 2026, spirit

group of people in a national park lodge
The group celebrated the Patriarch’s 90th birthday. We randomly and comically engaged with them in an unplanned, boisterous, over-the-top silliness. It was Magically fun and funny, for everyone.

Back home from Glacier, a week now.

Have some powerfully reflective posts to create for posterity. Here’s this week’s lineup:

  1. What’s next?
  2. Here’s what i envisioned Glacier 2026 to be
  3. Here’s how Glacier 2026 played out
  4. How does Glacier’s 2026 farewell feel?
  5. What’s next for Glacier?
  6. Glacier 2026 highlights
  7. Glacier 2026 regrets (if any)

2. Here’s what i envisioned Glacier 2026 to be…

Simple…a ‘farewell, Glacier’.

A ‘see you later, Glacier’.

3. Here’s how Glacier 2026 played out…

Better than expected. And you know i expected excellence.

Honestly didn’t know what would actually play out. Bottomline, bullseye.

The western wildfire smoke and the rain made hiking uninviting. Because we didn’t hike much, we had stillness and reflection time that wasn’t planned.

A proverbial blessing in disguise.

Dear Son, some important context notes, spirit

Piegan Glacier on the way to Piegan Pass.

Stunning view on Piegan Pass Trail. Mt Jackson on far upper right. If you know, you know.
Glacier National Park
Stromatolites are everywhere on Piegan Pass Trail, if you know where to look. Hint, you have to go off-trail.

Their superpower is moving so slow that predators can’t detect them.
Glacier National Park
i swear, i am the luckiest hiker to ever hike Glacier National Park. #truth

Many of our greatest and consistent blessings humbly began as random acts of risk or adventure.

Be the wine, spirit

Glacier National Park
We never whine about the elevation gain.
Glacier National Park
We never whine about the solitude.
Glacier National Park
We never whine about the inherent risks of hiking deep in with few, if any, fellow hikers.

Be the wine, not the hangover. -social media

Be the hope, not the fear. – dad

Wealthy, spirit

Glacier National Park
This, to me, is ‘wealth’.
Glacier National Park
More ‘wealth’.
Glacier National Park
Even more ‘wealth’.

To be near 70 and have the health (and time, and means) to hike this deep in is, to me, like hitting the lottery. Photo: Sperry Glacier from a different angle than from Sperry Chalet.

Wealth is when you have something money can’t buy.

For example, being at peace with who you are and content with what you have.
